San Walfredo 2021

The 2021 San Walfredo, a single-vineyard Merlot from the northern part of the appellation, pours a deep, saturated red hue and is intensely aromatic, with notes of menthol, balsamic, blackcurrant, plum compote, licorice, and espresso. Full-bodied, it’s powerful and structured, with dense, chewy tannins and a rich, enveloping texture, yet it retains a core of freshness that keeps it in balance. The balsamic and menthol tones are pronounced and lend a resinous, almost cooling lift that frames the wine’s depth and concentration. Long and persistent on the finish, it’s an age-worthy wine that should evolve slowly over time. Drink 2028-2048.
