Locone

Castel del Monte DOC
Bocca Di Lupo Locone

The wine

The name Locone takes its inspiration from the lake of the same name, an artificial reservoir located in the territory of Minervino Murge which is essential to give life to a karst, white and “poor” area such as that of the upper Murgia.

Vinification

In a land of red wines, an outstanding white. The Bocca di Lupo estate is located at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level (820 feet) in the heart of the untamed Murgia area near Minervino Murge about 90 kilometers west of Bari. The estate’s certified organic vineyards grow on calcareous, low nutrient soils that are optimal for producing wines that are elegant, lively with well-defined aromatic precision.

Winemaking

Harvested , destemmed and delicately crushed, the must was transferred into fermentation vats where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration on the skins lasted for a period of approximately ten days with punch-downs and pump-overs where performed for a blanaced and gradual extraction of color, aroma, and body. Once alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wine was transferred into oak barrriques where malolactic fermentation and aging took place.

Historical Data

Passion, courage, and confidence in the immense potential Apulia has to offer in terms of the highest quality are all elements that inspired the Antinori family to invest in this region over twenty years ago.

The estate is located in the countryside of Minervino Murge in Apulia, the DOC region of Castel del Monte, an area well known for the beauty of its wild. Tenuta Bocca di Lupo estate is the spark that ignited this dream and later confirmed its position as undisputed leader in the enological “Renaissance” of the entire region.

Tasting Notes
