Vinification
Barolo Serra is crafted from an exceptional vineyard in the Serralunga area. Barolo DOC is a historic wine and 2020 is Barolo Serra’s first vintage. The vineyards’ diversified sunlight exposure and traditional aging in large format barrels enhance the balance and complexity of Nebbiolo.
Winemaking
Freshly harvested grapes were brought to the cellar, sorted, destemmed, and crushed. Maceration on the skins lasts for approximately one week at a temperature that does not exceed 30 °C (86 °F). Malolactic fermentation is completed before the end of winter. The wine is aged in 50 hL oak barrels for at least 18 months.
Historical Data
The Prunotto estate is located in Alba, the most important city in the Langhe area halfway between Barbaresco and Barolo on the right side of the Tanaro river, on gentle plains surrounded by vineyards in the Langhe and Roero territories. The natural beauty of the gently rolling hills alternate with small sloping valleys covered by rows of meticulously cultivated vineyards. The Antinori family, charmed by such rich natural beauty, unique vineyards and soils, decided to invest time and energy in this terroir to make Prunotto one of the most important winemaking estates in the Piedmont region.
Tasting Notes
Barolo Serra is a lively and deep garnet red color. The nose is both austere and fascinating at the same time: notes of red fruit are accompanied by hints of sage, forest floor, and impressions of roses and violets. The palate is generous and elegant defined by outstanding tannic structure and pleasant freshness. The wine closes with a long and persistent finish.
