Vermentino

Bolgheri DOC
Vermentino Nuovo

The wine

Inspired by the desire to reintroduce one of the indigenous varieties from this part of the Tyrrhenian coast, this Vermentino has been recognized and appreciated for its aromatic qualities.

Vinification

Inspired by the desire to reintroduce one of the indigenous varieties from this part of the Tyrrhenian coast, the Guado al Tasso Vermentino has been recognized and appreciated since the 1990’s for its aromatic qualities. Bolgheri’s microclimate is particularly favorable for Vermentino production due to both the territory’s orientation and proximity to the sea which gives the wine pronounced mineral notes, freshness and aromatic qualities. Vineyards thrive on clay-loam based soils, mainly alluvial in origin with texture varying from silty-sand to sandy.

Winemaking

Each vineyard parcel was harvested separately, based on the level of maturity of the grapes, aimed at preserving and enhancing the complex territorial characteristics of each individual vineyard block. Upon arrival at the cellars, grapes were destemmed, delicately crushed, and gently pressed. The resulting must was transferred into stainless steel temperature controlled fermentation tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Each individual lot was carefully and systematically evaluated and then blended.

Historical Data

The noble Della Gherardesca family began practicing viticulture in the late 1600’s on their land in Bolgheri, but things really began to change under the guidance of Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca (1780-1854).
He was a passionate about viticulture. He was appointed majordomo of Grand Duke Leopold II and then dedicated himself to enology in his family’s land in Maremma.

In the 1930’s, the property was inherited by Carlotta Della Gherardesca Antinori (Piero Antinori’s mother) and her sister who was married to Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta (who received the nearby Tenuta San Guido).

Tasting Notes

Intense on the nose with pleasant floral and fruity notes of citrus fruit, hawthorn blossoms, and peach pulp. The palate is savory with good persistence of flavors and finishes fresh with hints of citrus fruit.
